Audio Drabble: Night Music

Decided to flip it up and put up drabbles for the next couple of days. This one came from a fun image that I found online.  Took a few tries to get through the words of this one without tripping up. Recording your own work can be an interesting thing to do. It shows you how your work is with pacing and it also gives you a whole new respect for those who do audio work for a living.

I heard at one point that the voice actors were thinking of doing a strike for better benefits and more time between jobs. If you think about it voice actors spend hours reading out loud and if they do games they could be screaming out loud for hours. They strain or even injure the vocal cords and if they end up unable to talk the don’t get paid.

So here you go. Enjoy folks.

Making audio files of flash fiction

Recently i tested out using my recording ap on my tablet.  Started with the dribbles I wrote last year. For those who dont remember dribbles are stories of exactly 25 words.  Reading your own work is something we all should do but it does feel weird. I plan on posting them up once I find a program to convert the gpp file to mp3. Seems my lenovo tabley records in gpp, which as far as I can see is not accepted in the various places for sharing sound files.

The second part issue is finding a place to post up these files. I have a bunch of my poems I recorded before my desktop died that are up on my old Myspace page but it looks like only music is over there now. And to be honest I never actually gained any traction on that social site.

So anyone have suggestions? While I have a YouTube site (two actually but I can not lig into the first one) I doubt straight audio would get views. I used to post my book trailers and aome fun photo videos over there. Maybe if I decide to do an snimated short versus the illustrated shorts I am working on but that is future.

So if you are intetested in hearing my reading of my work please tell me where I can put them. There are fifteen dribbles recorded and about twenty five poems. I will be recording my drabbles, quickie fictions. Probsbly everything I have under a thousand words. Given a place to put them and working equipment.

How about some drabbles?

With the god awful heat and humidity I could sit at my desktop computer and write new stuff or I could sit over by the fan and blog on the netbook. Can you think which I decided to do?

Drabbles are of course fun to read and I need to sit back and write more of these short glimpses into the world of my mind! Enjoy

Birth of a Familiar

I sit upon this cold gray stone and ponder the world around me. My brothers are green and my sisters are brown but somehow I am different. Black is the soft skin that covers my limber body, as black as the heart of evil. Scattered across my skin are odd shapes. They glow with an odd purple light that has frightened away my siblings. I look up and see the face of a man and suddenly I understand the odd croaking of his voice. “You are my familiar now. What is your name?”

I open my mouth and answer. “George.”

I haven’t titled this one yet but here goes:

The fire burns slowly, melting the snow on the ground. I move closer, shivering from the cold. This night is the one I have waited for, for so long. Watching the skies for that single sign that will tell me that it is time. Winter has gone on to long, stretching out for longer than any living can remember.

There above the slowly brightening sky I see it. The bright tail of light racing across the sky makes the time of change. Soon we will be free of this never ending cold, soon spring will return. Will she be gentle?

Stepping into the light

For so long I lived in the darkness, the bars of my cage all I could see. Whether they were there to keep me in or keep things out, I was never sure. As I rested unaware the door opened. I opened my eyes to a golden glow, at first I was afraid, but then I stepped out. There before me was a slender branch, a path to freedom. Taking a deep breath I placed my bare foot on that branch and walked so willingly into a future unknown. The golden light caressed my skin as the world dropped away.

Next week who knows I might do poetry or quickie fictions or something else…we will see.
